The World Conference on Regenerative Medicine (WRM) has laid a further milestone for Leipzig and its impact in regenerative medicine. The 2009 Conference organizers were proud to welcome many new participants from all over the globe as well as a relative large group of repeat participants who found their way to the WRM, the successor of the World Congress on Regenerative Medicine.
We look back contentedly to over 240 lectures and over 220 scientific posters from about 1,100 participants from 37 nations. Participant numbers indicate which topics from the extensive program of the WRM were the most important and which keynote speakers were the most interesting. Taking this into account, conference halls were well filled particularly in sessions concerning tissue and organ regeneration tissue engineering, immunology in regenerative medicine and those on the potential of stem cells, especially induced pluripotent stem cells. A further subject area, highlighted in five sessions, assessed the funding situation and regulatory affairs for the marketing of cell products. These numbers show that not only pure research and development are matters of interest but also the future marketing and translation of products from the field of regenerative medicine play an increasing role.
With this in mind, the Conference supported a large industrial exhibition where international researchers and biotechnology companies could extensively demonstrate how far translation of current technology could reach and how research could be implemented as products. Together with our colleagues from the satellite symposia, from the fields of veterinary medicine, rapid prototyping, bioinformatics and economics we are confident in having succeeded in organizing a very interdisciplinary and demanding program.
We applaud the success of the World Conference on Regenerative Medicine which was rated a successful, informative and interesting event, which offered the opportunity to hear about and discuss new scientific developments, encounter new persons and meet old friends and colleagues – and all together spend some nice three days in Leipzig.
In the name of the organizers of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology and of the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine Leipzig we are proud to announce the upcoming World Conference on Regenerative Medicine in Leipzig on November 2 - 4, 2011. Please mark the date in your calendar!
Yours sincerely
